Having seen this lady perform in the States I know she can deliver. The problem is the producer here seems to have fallen into the same quandary as when Vernessa recorded for Command Records. Should Vernessa - who possesses a blisteringly soulful vocal armoury - be singing over crossover funk, more traditional black gospel, or MOR ballads? So she gets to do a bit of each and some of the impact is dissipated, particularly as some of these songs are downright ordinary. A great vocal talent still waiting for a great album.
