'Banana na na' is one of a series of four new Fruit Of The Spirit recordings. It turns out, however, that this is a partial repackage of a disc released back in 2001 - now in smart new packaging and retitled. Songwriters are a team of well known Vineyard musicians - Casey Carey, Terry Butler, Cindy Rethmeier and Dave Chumchal. And it's these guys who lead on their own songs, with a notably proficient backing band. The songs are catchy and thankfully non-cheesy. Indeed they appear to be aimed at slightly older children, as they come in a rather adult-friendly style. The tunes are finely varied with differing tempos and moods and include some edgy hip-hop (the opening "U R The 1 4 Me"), a catchy Cajun number ("Happy") and a dose of funk-pop ("He's A Rock"). There are eight songs in total and all are repeated as instrumentals for group use. Guitar chord charts and overhead masters are also included on the CD and at £4.99 this seems like a pretty good investment.
