Throughout most of 2004, Vineyard UK refrained from releasing new songs, for which this reviewer was quite relieved: as a worship leader, it's hard work trying to keep up with all the latest releases, sifting through all the new songs to find ones that might work in the local church. So now the UK Vineyard team are back with eight new songs, penned by various writers and sung by various singers, including James Hellings and Kathryn Scott. And they've made it very convenient for church musicians, including the song chords and words in the sleeve, and a bonus acoustic version of the opening "rock anthem" "Lift Up My Gaze". It's always a sign of a good song if it works well with a band and just with a guitar or piano. So the quality of songwriting, singing and playing is up with the expected high quality from the Vineyard outfit. While it's not easy to imagine all of these songs becoming church standards, most would have a place in some kind of church setting. James Hellings' rocking "Nothing In This World" and Thys Meades' gentle song of adoration "Bring Me Back" in particular stand out.
