Reviewed by Tom Lennie Vineyard UK's first two releases, 'Come Now Is The Time' and 'Hungry' were, in my opinion, two of the most innovative, powerful and moving praise and worship albums to be released in Britain in many years. I just loved the original, passionate sounds expressed on each, showing the high degree of spirituality, songwriting and musical talent that exists in the UK church. 'Surrender', while not as edgy and in-your-face as the other two, remains a strong and sensitive worship experience nevertheless. Brian Doerksen, who helped direct and energise Vineyard UK worship, has returned home; in his place Brenton Brown and Kathryn Scott act as competent producers; both also do their share of leading worship/songwriting. Other lead vocalists include Sharon Heap, Marc James and newcomer Nigel Briggs. All songs are new, save Doerksen's beautifully simple '91 "You Are My King", and include the vibrant opener "Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing)" as well as the more predominant attitude of tenderness and surrender found in the like of "Devotion", "We Will be Together" and the title cut. Indeed, I found the album truly worshipful throughout. Included with my copy was a limited edition bonus CD featuring 13 full length cuts from recent Vineyard albums. A worthy freebie with some good songs from 'The Burn Service' (reviewed CR58), the Winds Of Worship series and the acoustic 'Intimacy'. Here's hoping Vineyard UK can keep up the quality of worship they've so far delivered.
