This is Voyager Project's second album, a follow-up to the self-produced 'Where Angels Fear To Tread'. This set of eight songs is also self-produced, but the production, from their own new studio in Werrington, is much improved. With a powerful mixture of keyboards and guitar above a thumping bass line, this has echoes of everyone from the Moody Blues (in some of the vocal arrangements) to French '70s prog rockers Ange. The lyrics are articulate and thought provoking, with some witty turns of phrase (particularly apparent on "Second Best Friend") and strong biblical imagery ("The Elder Son"). The title track and "All The Stars" have an almost Psalm-like quality to them. There are some great guitar solos from Rob Ogden and Ed Cooke's bass keeps the whole show moving along nicely, even on those few occasions when the drums are not quite cutting it. The only real weakness is on a couple of the solo vocal passages, where there's clearly a bit of a struggle to hit the right notes going on. On the whole though, this album shows a creatively developing band.
