On seeing all the old favourites included on this disc, this reviewer's reaction was that this is aimed at collectors of ancient hymns. The subtitle, ‘Hymns For Children’, is unhelpful. If a hymn is good it should be sung; if it is not good enough for adults then it should not be foisted on children. I was pleasantly surprised when my daughter overheard track four, “When A Knight Won His Spurs”, and announced that she had sung it in assembly that morning. There are others that I remember from my own school days such as “Morning Has Broken”, “He Who Would Valiant Be”, “Lord Of The Dance” and so on. There are two carols: “Little Jesus, Sweetly Sleep (Rocking)” and “Away In A Manger” and several classic hymns that are still sung by many, including “Tell Me The Stories Of Jesus”, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “Onward Christian Soldiers” and, well, you should get the idea. If you recognise none of these titles you may not enjoy this collection. The singing is excellent.
