Wes gives thanks to Gary and Jerry for "believing in such a young one", and judging by the pics he's certainly no granddad. Yet Wes's similarity to one of the groups of the 60s and 70s, Bread, suggests he should be an ageing hippy rather than the baby faced butter-wouldn't-melt-in-my-mouth image he portrays ("Rain On My Windshield", "Your Voice" - you'll hear what I mean!). Okay, the lyrics ain't original, but boy this lad's enjoying himself. Wes might just as well be huddled in a student bed-sit thrashing away by himself, not giving a care to the world for his landlord's peace. This album by no means expresses self indulgence - it just moves away from the jelly moulded pop of the 80s and allows a musician to share himself, and the gospel, with others. Wes credits such stars as Margaret Becker and Kim Hill, and certainly with continued encouragement from them he should go far. This album, without reaching the cream of Christian music, deserves applause.
