About time too. There's long been a dearth of quality choral music recordings on these shores. So sad to see good, disciplined, choir expertise swiftly eroded by a tidal wave of often-ragged, cheap thrill, high powered praise recordings just because the latter is seen, often falsely, as being more "real" and "spiritual". This superb 22 voice chorale offers 22 superlative renderings of mainly familiar hymns and songs, given the richest of arrangements, often with sparse, classically oriented instrumentation. The result is of a form of music offering a height of purity and beauty little heard, and so all the more appreciated. Together with Kingsway's release of the excellent The Master's Chorale - acappella tapes, this sets the lead for, hopefully, a resurgence of awareness of a great music genre that's timeless.
