First problem. This CD from the Iona Community doesn't fit neatly into any of the categories! It's not chorale, or African, or roots, yet musically it combines elements of world music and Scottish folk music, much of it arranged in the four part harmony of the choral tradition. It follows on from earlier Wild Goose collections that have included songs from the world church and introduces songs from Asia, Africa and Latin America as well as Europe. In addition to the songs from other nations, there are six songs written by John Bell, (two of them co-written with Graham Maule). The songs are either unaccompanied or with a simple piano or guitar accompaniment. They are songs primarily for singing in the context of worship and not just listening to; if your church hasnĀ¹t discovered music from the Iona Community before, then you've been missing out on a rich resource for worship. If you know and enjoy their music already, then this will not disappoint.
