Violinist David Davidson plays beautifully but Kingsway think it best to keep his name off the front of the CD. American David has an unerring ability to mix baroque-style classical phrasing with occasional glimpses of Celtic-style fiddle like on the terrific "Plainsong" opener. The material here is an interesting mix taking in Johann Sebastian Bach ("Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring"), several other venerable hymns and a Davidson original "Lord We Worship You". One final thing. On "Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming", "Lord We Worship You" and "Doxology" there are interjections from a small vocal group which makes a nonsense of the "Instrumental expressions of worship" spiel on the sleeve. A very pleasant album that overcomes unimaginative packaging.
