Gentle strings swirl gently; panpipes pipe and a selection of overplayed oldies are spun once more instrumentally in nice little medleys. Panpiper Jon Clarke plays beautifully to the Don Marsh Orchestra and it's all so very, very, very nice. Spiritual easy listening for the over 50s with no imagination. The marketplace is seemingly flooded with hundreds of this type of album and there isn't really anything here that makes it stand out from the crowd bursting out of your local bookshop's CD rack. No offence to Clarke's talent on the old pipes, it's just all hugely bland and boring. Sort of Christian Mantovani destined to be playing very, very gently over the sound system in your local Christian bookstore while you patter delicately about the shop. This is a tired concept, which after 20 years still sells to the undiscerning Christian consumer. I wonder what Mr Clarke would sound like if he performed original compositions. Bet it would be more interesting than this terminal blandness. Ho hum, perhaps if Christian bookshops played something more original, albums like these would do dodo impressions. I can dream can't I? Until then, avoid like small pox!
