A Word of Exhortation
(2 Kings 4:2)

The Spirit of the Lord gave me this very special word of exhortation for you in this season of breakthrough. I pray that you are able to give it attention and that it blesses you, as it has done me.

God’s plan is to give you an “uninterrupted flow of His blessings”, and not the, “almost there”-“near miss” experiences of most Christians today. Much of your challenging times, troubles, trials, and tribulations have been to mature you so that you become a person who can handle God’s “free flowing blessings.”

The story of a favoured widow, who was married to a servant of God, should encourage your heart today. The Bible states; “A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha.” (2 Kings 4:1). It has been said by some Bible historians that she was the wife of prophet Obadiah.

The widow got Elisha’s attention by honouring his mantle and by recognising the anointing upon his life. In return God remembered her husband’s past services to Him. God gave His prophet a strategy that saved her from present embarrassment and the pain of watching her sons taken into slavery. One of the many attributes of the mantle of a true prophet is the ability to engage the future by literally pulling your tomorrow into your today. Some of the battles you have had to fight in the last seven years at least were not about your present or past state. The enemy of your salvation has been fighting against your future.

The enemy was contending the future or generation shift in the story of the widow with oil. Her sons stood as a sign of the future. So the enemy knowing that fact came not for one, but both sons. He knew the future was about multiplication so he devised a plan to enslave the instruments God would use to achieve His purpose (i.e. the sons). Elisha asked her a simple question that I sense God is asking many of us today? “Tell me, what do you have in the house?”

She probably was consumed at that point with feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, knowing her most valued possessions would soon be taken away from her. She replied to Elisha, informing him that she had nothing in the house except “a jar of oil”. What she did not know was that the jar of oil was the ‘multiplier”. The anointing that only flows from God Almighty would multiply the oil she had in the house. She underestimated the grace of God upon her life. How often do you stop to thank God for His anointing upon your life? In times of great deliverance, the anointing is an important key that opens doors of opportunity to God’s children who were previously bound.

“It shall come to pass in that day that his burden shall be taken away from your shoulder and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.” (Is 10:27)

The Key To Your Miracle Is Right By You

Elisha did not become dissuaded by her ‘defeatist’ mindset but focused on the quality of her only item of value (a jar of oil) which was to become the key to unlock her future. Her focus was set on the enemy’s plan to cart away her sons so she did not realise she had the key that would open supernatural doors of financial breakthrough right in her house. However, the prophet knew the key to her breakthrough lay in her own home so he simply asked “what do you have in the house”? She was inadvertently limiting God by focusing on the enemy’s plans.

The Spirit of the Lord is speaking to you right now to cease from giving your time to anticipating the devil’s next step but instead you must ask yourself the question “What do you have in the house”. I am not putting forward an argument that the devil does not exist. As a matter of fact the Bible warns through several scriptures that we are to resist the devil. The key to your breakthrough is right in your environment. Samson the man of strength slew one thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey in a place called “Lehi” meaning “Jawbone.” God gave Samson a weapon, the “Jawbone” of a donkey, to defeat his enemies (the Philistines) that besieged him in a town called “Jawbone” or “Lehi”. If God had given him a “thigh bone” then the revelation I bring to you would not have made sense. It makes sense that in a land called ‘Jawbone’ the quickest and easiest thing to find would be a ‘Jawbone’. It makes sense that the loving Father will give His children pain free, stress free, and easily accessible solutions. Hence I believe we grieve the Holy Spirit with our “spirit of importation”, where solutions are constantly sought from outside a spiritual climate, harbouring a problem we seek to resolve. There is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing in expert counsel as is common in secular activities but sometimes local solutions as in Samson’s case could really be all we needed. I must reiterate the fact that God met Samson like the woman at Jacobs Well and gave him a weapon that he could easily relate to and work with. God gave Samson a local solution to a local problem.

My Prayer: The same shall be your story in Jesus name. God has given you victory over circumstances and situations in and around your life.

The key to your miracle is local to you. So, “what do you have in the house?”
