Ishmael talks about his move from a new church to a cathedral

CHILDREN's ministry veteran and pioneer of British Jesus music Ishmael has given a lengthy interview to Christianity magazine where he spoke about his pioneering years in Christian music and his recent decision to move from a new church to worship at Chichester Cathedral. He told journalist Clive Price, "After spending most of my life in the charismatic/new church thing, I was getting stale." In addition, he had endured three church splits in a relatively short period of time. "It was crazy. Was it a spiritual mid-life crisis? I think I've had that many times."

The article recounted how it was Ishmael's wife Irene who suggested going to worship at the cathedral. "I started going to the early morning Eucharist. They have one at eight o'clock every morning. I felt threatened because it's silent. There's no singing. It's just a half-hour of you and Jesus. Suddenly I'm thinking, 'for me this is fresh, this is real worship'." CR
