If you've read the Rivers & Robots article we published awhile back you'll know that this four-man group grew out of a previous project recorded by keyboard player Jonathan Ogden. This five-song EP was released in 2013 and as well as the electro influences seems to draw inspiration from the likes of Elbow, Coldplay and David Gray. The opening song "Fountains" flows with spacious riffs and rhythms and care-free high lead vocal line. Piano is the lead instrument, well supported by melodic bass guitar and tasteful use of tom toms (even if played by ProTools or equivalent software). "Come Back" has a dreamy start with vocal harmonies wrapped in reverb. However the arrangement is far simpler. "The Bridegroom" is more grassroots with acoustic guitar skilfully plucked and intimate vocal delivered with honesty and vulnerability: Song of Solomon appears to be the primary influence. The later songs are more directly worshipful, though the musicality starts to suffer from predictability and lyrics lose a little poetry. However, these guys make an intriguing, interesting and promising sound.
