My Spoon: British Rockers Offer "Rage Against The Machine Meets Busted"

Wednesday 7th March 2007

Fest favourites MY SPOON were quizzed by Tony Cummings about their music, history and plans.

Continued from page 1

In 2007 we've got shows lined up at Spring Harvest, Easter People, Cliff College Festival and Firm Foundations. We're also hoping to be back at the Meltdown festival and Greenbelt, although nothing has been confirmed yet. We are also currently auditioning to be part of New Wine as well, so if you're at any of these festivals pop in and say hello!

Future dates are being plotted in a tour of the UK from August through till we drop with exhaustion. So keep your eyes on www.myspace.com/myspoon or www.passthespoon.com for more info!!

Tony: What is the spiritual vision behind the band?

Deano: My Spoon aim to be ourselves, honest guys who allow God to use us and work through us. We love playing our music and worship songs in the hard rock genre but we don't let this get in the way of God's work. Right at the beginning of My Spoon we were asked to work on a mission team in Honfleur, France, and then continue down to lead worship at Spring Harvest France. It was clear that our style was not suitable for either setting but God clearly said to us 'flexibility!' This is a word that has been with us all through our work, giving us a bigger perspective, where it is more important to see a job is done well than it is for us to be playing the music that we love! Usually we are blessed with bookings where it is beneficial for us to play as we enjoy most, but our greater goal is God.

Other than that, My Spoon just want to make honest music. Music that makes us happy to play and people can connect to. Music that shows our Christian beliefs and practises, with enough get-up-and-go to be enjoyed by general hard rock fans!

Tony: Is there another album in the pipeline?

John OB: YES! There's no set date on this at the moment... but we've been busy writing some new tracks and have even starting playing a few of them live! The reaction from fans has been great so we can't wait till we get them recorded in the studio. But for the moment you'll have to see us live to catch a glimpse of the new songs! CR
