The title and track list - including "People Get Ready", "You'll Never Walk Alone", "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" - didn't look promising. Plus, my CR archive told me that Any Given Day is essentially US ska band OC Supertones so my critical talents were on overdrive as I started the CD. What a pleasant surprise! This is stripped down, heart-felt worship with a distinctly live feel. Great vocals, with drums and Hammond B3 you can almost reach out and touch. Moved by meeting refugees from Sudan in San Diego the band has included "Hallelujah" in Sudanese and some backing vocals from a Sudanese children's choir. Part of the sales proceeds of the album goes towards aid for Sudan. Stylistically you could even classify some of the tracks as R&B and jazz (no trace of ska/reggae), but who cares - this is a refreshing take on some worship classics.
