This is not the usual sort of gospel album in that it's a small group thing, and a studio recording. Bishop L C Terry & Daughters Divine hail from Newark, New Jersey, USA, where the good Bishop is Chief Apostle and founder of the Fellowship of Holiness National Council of Churches. The three Daughters Divine (the Bishop's own real-life daughter April, along with Davonna Flippen and Janet Ziegler), share the lead vocals with the Bishop, with musical duties being taken care of by the Divine Ensemble Band. A bad start from my perspective was espying the phrase "gospel at its best" on the CD sleeve, and having listened to the thing, I have to disagree. With some eccentrically swoopy vocals from the girls, a band that is rather far back in the mix and a batch of ordinary-to-middling songs that suffer from repetition and cliché, this, despite the efforts of all concerned, is streets behind the output of most of today's big names.
