We've heard it done by Nigerians, black Brits and white Yanks - even by Germans and Dutch people - but unless you know the right pirates to tune into finding reggae gospel from JA itself has been tougher than trying to find the plot in an episode of Baywatch. Welcome, then, to Change - not the faceless "80s disco outfit, but Jamaica's foremost reggae gospel band - with their debut offering. I must admit, as first listen I wasn't that impressed, but after putting it aside for a week, I listened again and il sounded a lot better. It's mostly mellow, although there's toasting on a couple of tracks it's not as frantic as ragga, and a few tracks lean more towards soul. My favourite tracks include "Jesus Is Lord" (which the band once performed at a Billy Graham crusade) and "It's A Time", one of a few for which some listeners might require an interpreter. Still, as they say. "Big him up again - run tings!"
