The latest EP from Colorado-based hip-hop artist Chaz Miles gets off to an attention-grabbing start with the infectiously upbeat "Love His Name" (previously released as a single) showcasing the man's rap swagger to the solid backing of some funky piano, bass and drums in a way that just gets better with every listen. If you're able to get beyond pressing the repeat button over and over for that song alone, the rest of the EP is of an equally high standard with the Tone Jonez-produced "Joy" employing a radio friendly R&B groove to get the gospel message across whilst the slick hip hop of "Take 'Em To Church" continues in a similar thematic vein. In fact, the joy found in Christ is the overarching theme here and, thanks to the general breezy feel of the project along with Miles' humour-laced performance, this EP is a refreshing salve to the glut of introspective and serious fare that dominates the charts at the current time. Having said that, the mood changes slightly with the soul-searching "Rumble" but all to good effect thanks to Miles' innate skill as a communicator of faith-based truths.
