This repackaging of four CDs certainly offers a sizeable chunk of hymnody. Sung in traditional choral fashion by Chester Cathedral Choir and the Scottish Festival Singers, these recordings were originally made for Premier Christian Radio, and presumably first broadcast in the context of worship. The set offers a wide selection of more than 50 favourite hymns and worship songs, sung well. The arrangements are the kind of thing we've come to expect from Songs Of Praise, mostly four part harmony with organ accompaniment and occasionally other instrumentation. If you like traditional hymn singing, this is a good way to add lots of classic hymns to your collection, though in truth this hardly breaks new boundaries.
