Whilst Namibia may not be the first place that springs to mind when thinking of exponents of modern gospel music, southern African praise collective Clive Willemse & The Now Generation certainly know how to put together a slick and soulful gospel release. Very much drawing on American influences in terms of sound and style, this is a polished collection of songs that seek to praise God at every turn from the smooth soul of "Lord We Come" to gentle funk-tinged covers of the Gaithers' "Because He Lives" and Don Moen's "What A Mighty God" which showcase the talents of both the choir and a notably tight band. Perhaps disappointingly, only a couple of Afrikaans songs - the soulful "Lei My" and "Die Here Wat Ons Dien" - plus the infectious African energy of "David Praise" reference the group's indigenous roots but this may be a conscious decision to help Willemse and crew appeal to as wide an audience as possible as they travel the globe. The soulful and deeply worshipful "My Heart Is Fix" and the enjoyable if slightly repetitive slow gospel of "We Welcome You" and "Bless The Lord" close this competent release from a talented outfit who have ensured that Namibia is now firmly on the worship map.
