Now as you may know, I'm a bit of a country buff...Patsy Clyne...Steve Earle...Garth Brooks - love 'em. Why is it then that most of the praise albums I get usually don't raise the smallest yee-ha from my tonsils? Well pardners, take your boots off and grab a cup of black coffee and a plate of beans and I'll tell ya. Thang is...the pickin' is fine and dandy, all the instruments we need are in place and doggone, it even the singin' is pretty darned good. So then why am I actin' like I've got a cactus in my stetson? Why? I'll tell ya why...it's the songs...they just ain't cryin' in my beer, yippie-yi-yo, twangy guitar gut wrenchin', knee slappin', cow-brandin' country songs. This isn't an awful album but a country praise album with new kickin' country or even old gospel classics would be great, but some of these here toons just ain't country and so they are about as effective as a branding iron on a cow in flame resistant pyjamas! The idea's good, but come on guys, let's look at the songs next time.
