Reviewed by Dave Brassington It seems ages ago since the simple gospel song “One Day At A Time”, penned by Marijohn Wilkin, went to the top of the charts in Britain and America via recordings from Lena Martell and Cristy Lane. These recordings all date from 1987 when an album of the same name obviously sold bucket loads in America, so the comment on the album “The No 1 inspirational album in the world’ does have some credence as far as American album sales is concerned, but does seem rather presumptuous some 17 years later. Of the 22 tracks on this CD, all but a handful are very familiar, ie, “Amazing Grace”, “Rock Of Ages”, “How Great Thou Art”, etc, and I have to say that I have heard many better recordings of much of the material. In fact, it would be true to say that it is more of a middle of the road album than country with its soft string accompaniments and I was put in mind that Cristy sounds very much like a female Glen Campbell, who has also issued some very easy on the ear gospel albums. There is not a bad track on this album, unfortunately there is not much that really excites me either!
