Six year old Motherwell schoolboy Caden Beggan tragically passed away on 20 November 2012 having bravely fought a battle against meningococcal septicaemia that captured the imagination and support of over 50,000 Facebook followers as well as countless others across the globe. In order to raise funds for Glasgow's Yorkhill Children's Hospital, Caden's songwriter father David Beggan has joined forces with Scottish rock worship outfit Union State, former Silencers vocalist JJ Gilmour, Wet Wet Wet guitarist Graeme Duffin and Scottish songwriter David Lyon to record an extremely moving yet ultimately uplifting Christmas song which honours the memory of this remarkable and brave little boy. Musically, Union State pull out all the stops to make this pounding anthem a song to remember whilst incredibly powerful vocal performances from David and JJ Gilmour (as well as a group of backing vocalists that includes Caden's mum Angela) are simply breathtaking in a way that captures all the emotion of the family's loss whilst never ever being maudlin. Lyrically, the song references the hope and sorrow that surrounded the Saviour's birth with a thought-provoking poignancy that few Christmas songs manage to achieve whilst subtly tying in with the fact that Caden's short but inspiring life will bring hope to numerous sick children and their families now and in the future. If you download one Christmas single this year, make it this one.
