This was compiled by Radio Two's Paul Jones who has gone through the archives of Buddah Records and selected the 15 best tracks. With 10 or so albums to choose from, Mr Jones probably still had difficulty in finding music that really stands up today because of the Edwin Hawkins Singers history and specifically what happened to them after their spine-tingling classic from 1967. For, for the next decade the EHSs toured the world's concert halls while their sound became increasingly mannered, neither representative of what ghetto based black choirs were doing nor relevant to contemporary pop music. If you really want THAT hit, or quite like some of the minor successes like "To My Father's House" you might want to buy this album, though programme your CD player to skip the quite dreadful Paul Anka-produced track.
