The wonderfully named Mr van Splunter has been composing and recording quite a while in his native Netherlands and some time back cut an album with popular UK producer Andy Green. I'm not sure where this project was made but pretty impressive it is, particularly if your tastes veer towards evocative instrumental music. Edwin's piano playing is excellent while his arranging skills go way beyond the standard synth wash of so many Christian-based instrumental projects. Particularly strong is the haunting "A Pilgrim's Prayer" which features a lady speaking some thoughts about the Christian walk and how "we journeyed together". There's also some Eastern percussion on "Heart Of A Pilgrim" while "Freedom Found" has an effective Celtic feel with what sounds like a bodhran. Much of this album would fit nicely into a soaking sessions programme if your church does such things or alternatively it would work as a musical accompaniment to your quiet times. The one problem is the inclusion towards the end of the album a piece of instrumental salsa called "Dancing". It's a reasonably executed piece of Latin rhythm but seems out of place on this collection of gentle musical musings.
