When it comes to musical CVs, Andy Scott's takes some beating. Amongst other credentials, he is Tutor Of Saxophone at the Royal Northern College Of Music and vice president of the International Saxophone Committee. Foden's Band is a well established brass band based in Cheshire. The CD claims to breaking new ground in creating a marriage of the two. Does it work? Well, on the most part, not quite. Take the opening number for example, a beautiful piece called "A World Within", which instantly enters you into another gentler world, but after 10 minutes becomes too complex and a little self indulgent for the average listener. The third track "My Mountain Top" featuring euphonium soloist Glyn Williams, is another example where, listening is a challenge as narration is read underneath the music. I enjoyed "The Battle Of Barossa" but found the history narration irritating, especially after the first listen. Andy Scott is clearly talented and Foden's Band are masters of their instruments. But overall, this is a difficult album to recommend.
