Glyn William's first solo release involved him playing all instruments on the album. This, his second, sees him focus on the euphonium, an instrument for which he is renowned. The opener, the complex "Concerto For Euphonium And Brass Band" demonstrates this, especially in the third movement "The Dragons Den", where Glyn's playing is simply jaw-dropping. In contrast "Veritas" (Latin for truth), is a very gentle, slow piece originally recorded by Joe Alessi and the Imperial Brass Band Of New York. "My Mountain Top" is an interesting piece with its crackling at the start representing the feeling of heat on the skin and develops into a engaging, atmospheric piece aided by narration by Lemn Sissay. The combination works well. Andy Scott's beautiful "Salt Of The Earth Gospel", one of two compositions by Scott here, is a piece that often features in Foden's concert programmes. The album finishes with the much more energetic (in parts) "My Favourite Things", which combines the Sound Of Music song with many other of his favourite pieces. The one flaw is that there is an over preponderance of slow, gentle tracks on this set.
