This offering from the Grimethorpe Colliery Band (14 tracks providing 72 minutes) demonstrates, musically, the phrase most usually associated with sportsmen, that while form is temporary class is permanent. Away from the recording studios for a couple of years Grimethorpe have come back with a clever collection of tunes that it is impossible to fall out with. There does not appear to be any obvious logic or theme to the tune selection, and many of them we are extremely familiar with, but to criticise the album on either of those levels would be to miss the point - this CD is about what Grimethorpe can do with a tune, and what they can do with a tune is a great deal, and almost all of it very well. Great all-in foot-tappers, eloquent and moving solos, lusty ballads, it is all here and (as they say) much more besides. Great fun and a great listen.
