Utterly obscure recordings made for a series of six broadcasts for a white New York radio station in 1936, these remained lost and forgotten until Document Records blew off the cobwebs, took off the white radio announcer and put them on this CD. If you're a fan of the old, pre-war, close harmony sound of the Mills Brothers and the Ink Spots you'll probably find these sides charming and certainly the Quartette have a slick and professional acapella harmony sound and are able to run through all kinds of stuff, secular and religious, from "Workin' On The Railroad" and "Watermelon Smilin' On The Vine" through to "Ezekial Saw De Wheel" and "Let The Church Roll On". But be warned, these sides are crammed full of politically incorrect attitudes and eye-rolling tomfoolery.
