Reviewed by Tony Cummings Volume one of this new series originating from Word UK was not only released a year ago (apologies to our readers in getting this review to you so late) but became one of the surprise major bookshop sellers of 2000. Why surprise? Well, if we told you that this album featured new recordings of "Power Of Your Love", "Come Now Is The Time", "Jesus We Celebrate your Victory", "The Happy Song" and 24 other songs and that the worship leaders featured included Calvin Bottoms, Karin Giesbrecht, Missy Payne, Terry Foss (plus another nine) you might be forgiven for thinking that this doesn't sound like an album to produce mega sales. But the whole sales pitch of albums such as this one focuses on the SONGS not the performances ("Double CD. 30 acclaimed Praise & Worship songs united for the first time" reads the sticker on the front sleeve), clearly shows there are plenty of punters out there who aren't bothered that these renditions of classic Delirious?, or Darlene Zschech, or Noel Richards, or Vineyard anthems aren't in the same league as the originals. They're great songs after all and these versions, competently recorded in Yorkshire and Nashville by the session-seasoned producer Chris Norton, are okay, if nothing special.
