Herman Boon is a professional comedian and children’s worker and the reason you’ve probably never heard of him is that he’s based in Holland. Now precisely why Integrity Music are releasing this album, subtitled ’18 Great Songs For Kids’, is one of those mysteries of corporate life. All I can report is that the songs here like the cod-Caribbean “Wild About You”, the over wordy “You Can’t See Him”, the zany “I’m A Nut” and the warning against arguments “Why?” are all unrelentingly chirpy. Herman is no great shakes as a singer (but then neither is Ish) while at least you get a pile of real musos playing enthusiastically along (including that sublime cellist, Luca Genta) rather than the dread el cheapo programming so popular on kids albums. And the kids choir thankfully make only occasional appearances. Not too bad considering.
