"Horsey Morgan? Who is this then: some new Welsh singer?" Wrong on two counts: not a singer but a band, and not Welsh but Northern Irish. "Oh well, must be a fun band, with a name like that." Not exactly: these three guys write earnest songs about the fickleness of human relationships and the fragility of faith. The only jaunty melody on this 10-track tape, "St Peter", still carries a serious message that faith, not cultural respectability, gets you into Heaven. The instrumentation consists of acoustic and bass guitars, plus a bodhran. The best comparison might be to the sparse acoustic sound of the secular Northern Irish singer Brian Kennedy and his 1990 album 'The Great War Of Words'. Imaging Phil And John without the silliness and you're not far off. Ex-Liberation Suite guitarist Barry Bynum has achieved a good simple production within obvious constraints: a bigger budget and they could layer the gorgeous harmonies more (although the echoed backing vocals on, for example, "Perfect Heart" are too predictable). They don't yet have enough memorable songs for major impact, but they display promise and "Hello And Goodnight" is touchingly beautiful. Watch this space.
