Having read a sleeve blurb about how this album was "reminiscent of that refreshingly unique cajun sound heard only in the heart of the bayou" all manner of cajun music heroes of my past (Nathan Abshire and the Hacklebury Ramblers) came flooding back to mind. Then I played the album. What could have been a great idea - Christendom could do with a bit of cajun fire - is almost completely let down by some dumb A&R work (how many more versions of "How Great Thou Art", "I'll Fly Away" and "Amazing Grace" do we need?) and by a set of musicians (never named on the totally anonymous sleeve) who are clearly far more at home with straight hillbilly music than the French/hillbilly synthesis of the bayou. OK I suppose if your taste for hillbilly wallpaper music hasn't already been met by those endless Brentwood Music albums. But I was sorely disappointed.
