No, don't get excited, it's not THE James Brown, If only eh! No, this is a wrinkle-free, open-faced young fellah, quite a contrast with the aforementioned old warrior really. Brown seems to have written much of this music as a tribute to the late Thomas Whitfield and really keeps himself pretty much in the background. Bit of a trainee Milton Brunson is he? Truth to tell, although there's a typically heavyweight BG workrate throughout, the sum total is somewhat bitty and overly-obvious. Good soloists though, specially Ronald Pearson. The instrumentalists work hard too. But 'Oh Give Thanks' is still a well-worn path with the same old scenery- good moments too scattered for comfort.
