The life of St Columba, in detail, unabridged. The Musical, The Story and The Epic. This sixth century biography may well be pure folklore. but there's a lot of sound scriptural truths in it. There's a lot of unsound ones too. Though. John Coupland struggles with Front Room Productions (lona) Ltd to bring us this hour long history of the legendary saint in music and spoken word. The edits and continuity are dreadful, the synth is unnecessary and awful and the whole thing needs an experienced editor. Il would work very well indeed, however, if produced properly; the songs are quite charming at times and the Celtic feel and attendant accent is obviously compatible with the content John's enthusiasm and knowledge of St Columba cannot help but keep your attention - for most of the time at least - and as an educational package it should be considered. My encouragement to John would be lo gel hold of a good educational publisher or a successful Radio 4 producer lo knock the thing into manageable and broadcastable shape. The product, like the legend, would then be very marketable indeed.
