If you know your Christian music history, you'll know that Tree63 from South Africa broke big in the US Christian music scene and also made frequent trips to the UK to play the fests. After Tree63 broke up, John Ellis, their songwriting frontman, went solo in his homeland and proceeded to put out a series of quality releases, of which this 2013 EP is one of them. It's taken Cross Rhythms a good seven years to catch up with 'Bush Telegraph' but I'm so glad we have. The playlisted track is throbbing, full-tilt rocker "Oncoming Train", which is close to metal and contains the great line "No one's against you but it feels like it". Almost as good is the syncopated hard clapper opening title track, while a song of rebellion against injustice, "Soon There Will Be More Of Us", gets more powerful with every play. Mr Ellis remains one of the most underrated songsmiths in Christendom and we would urge those reading this to investigate his highly recommended back catalogue.
