Jonathan Burchfield grew up playing the guitar and also quickly took on the banjo. At the age of 18 he was playing as back-up to country star Roy Clark in a group called the Spurrlows. For the last 25 years Burchfield has been based in Nashville, where he's worked with a heap of country and jazz musicians and where he's also created several solo discs. He continues to play in churches and halls around the country, sometimes accompanied by his wife and/or one or both of his brothers, all accomplished musicians. The sleevenotes to this disc tell you none of that, however - for there aren't any! Other, that is, than a simple list of the 20 hymns that Burchfield here renders. Most are hymnal classics - though there's a couple of surprises - and all feature backing by the famed Nashville Strings. The album has been digitally mixed and mastered for higher quality. Not exactly exciting music, but one has to concede that this guy knows how to play and deliver soothing, inspirational sounds.
