This is one in a series of several instrumental recordings released by Clydesdale Music Group and Kim Costanza from the US of A. Kim has chosen to focus on the old hymns such as "It Is Well With My Soul", "Nothing But The Blood" and "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross". Kim's mission is to create a "musical journey of gentle saxophone praise to remind us of our own journey to the cross." The keyword here is "gentle"! This musical journey may be a peaceful one, but it is also somewhat dull. The songs seem to dawdle along at the same pace throughout. However, just when I had given up all hope of tapping my feet, the tempo was upped on the last two tracks - "There Shall Be Showers Of Blessings" and "Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus". Both of these have a funky, laid back jazz flavour. If every track had been performed in a similar vein it would have made for a much more interesting listening experience. Although Kim performs each song beautifully and with sensitivity, the overall recording fails to portray the passion and power that these hymns possess.
