This instrumental CD dominated by Kunle's saxophone blows hot and cold - one moment it sounds engaging, and the next it sounds bland and pedestrian. Guess churchy folks will appreciate it more, as they may recognise much of what's here. Then again, maybe not, since we couldn't even recognise "Amazing Grace" or maybe it's an original tune (sadly there's no printed writer/publisher credits). The whole thing starts with a medley of the jazzy, MOR-ish "As The Deer Panteth" and "Let Your Living Water Flow", followed by a kicking reggae tune, "Holy Spirit Move Me Now". The rocking jit-jive "Swahili" has some nice sax lead lines. Another medley, including "Magnify The Lord" provides some pedestrian arrangements, which is saved by the upbeat African-vibed "Oyigi-Yigi" and "Ebami Yin Jesu". The "Be Magnified" and "Holy Holy Holy" medley is reflective and restful, whereas "Father We Declare" is overburdened with unnecessary soprano sax riffing, which doesn't give the song (and we guess the saxophonist) ample chance to breathe. A bold effort, but in the absence of a vocalist, your sax doesn't need to 'sing' at every moment.
