This collection, from Mass, Vespers and Compline, gives us an audio snapshot of the worship offered in the monasteries of the early Middle Ages and also links us back to the Synagogue where these chants have their roots. Indeed, this disc is worth hearing just as an historical record of how music sounded before the development of polyphony and full musical notation. But this recording is more than a curiosity. Listen to the wonderful singing and follow the translation of the Latin texts and you may find yourself drawn into the worship too.
