Jimmy Sisco, lead singer for punk rockers Platoon 1107 and Absolved, has poured himself into this debut solo album under the name Lights To Lights. Jimmy has taken the first 25 Psalms and here reads them out accompanied by some ambient sounding guitar work. The Psalms were written originally to be partnered with music and so it's not such a strange idea. Jimmy's reading is good in parts but after the first couple of tracks it seemed to be missing the variety of emotions expressed in the psalmist's words. Another problem is that Jimmy uses a lot of the same melodies and chord structures throughout this 80-minute album meaning that listening throughout becomes rather wearisome. There is a musical shift with Psalms 21 and 22 as the guitar changes to a lighter, acoustic and more uplifting sound. Any album which encourages us to meditate on the Word of God has much to recommend it, but in truth the execution of 'The Book Of Psalms: Chapters 1-25' is distinctly flawed.
