Baby Boomer worship seems to be the prevailing sound permeating churches in America and over here. Born in the Jesus Revolution in the early seventies. Its sound has been extended and adopted by the growth of charismatic churches. Reading the blurb accompanying this release, I was expecting Sandford & Co to be pushing back the frontiers a little bit wider but sadly this is still firmly placed in the seventies. Excellent flute contributions from producer Duane McCarthy, strong songwriting from Sandford himself and a highly talented band of musicians make this a strong worship band but overall the album doesn't really catch fire and really peters out towards the end so I'm left disappointed. Guitars chug, anthemic choruses are sung and there are a few moments when genius shines through. "Shout" and "Yes Lord" stand out (on the latter you even get a burst of The Pink Panther Theme - not many worship guitarists have such a sense of humour!!) The prayerful longing of the title song is beautiful but someone really should have stopped Loren duetting with his wife on "You're The Hope". Overall this is pretty solid musically from the kind of worship group I'd love to have in my church, but in a wider setting this sounds too ordinary.
