One would be interested to know how many church organists read this review and then find out how many had already heard this CD. Other readers may be interested to know that there is a parallel universe out there where lovers of organ music produce their own magazines, run websites, attend recitals and generally strive to keep the fine old tradition alive. Anything I write will be of little interest to these good people. But for the rest of us, this fine series is worth noting. As usual, the featured cathedral organ is played by the local director of music, in this case Mark Lee. The music chosen is appropriate for the instrument and has connections with the cathedral. Here the composers are Walter Alcock, Percy Whitlock, Clifford Harker, Easthope Martin, and Edward Elgar so the theme is late nineteenth and early twentieth century British music. Lee plays very well indeed and the recital flows nicely. As ever, sound quality is superlative and remarkably vivid. This CD will be appreciated by all who enjoy traditional Anglican music.
