At long last, we Christians are rediscovering and reclaiming our musical heritage. The latest evidence for this is ‘Masterworks Of Worship’, a new series of boxed sets of four CDs of "celebrated classics of the Church" produced by Kingsway. This is number two in the series, and at £16.99 it is an absolute bargain for which you get some great performances, with top orchestras, soloists and choirs, of some great music. Included are extended highlights of that baroque classic statement of faith, Bach's St John Passion; Haydn's Creation, from the otherwise sceptical late 18th century "age of enlightenment"; more baroque in the form of two of Vivaldi's Glorias, and some sublime Gregorian chant - amongst the earliest worship music of the Church. The extensive sleevenotes are pretty good too. Even if you have only a superficial interest in classical music, buy this set and become acquainted with and inspired by some of your Christian artistic heritage. I for one, eagerly await volume three.
