In the mid '90s this American singer recorded a couple of killer albums for the Christian label Forefront. But prior to that the songsmith recorded for A&M and this is his debut for the mainstream label from 1990. Fans of his later work will immediately recognise the powerful voice which ranges from a rasping whisper to a powerful roar. Also in place is the well crafted songwriting, strong memorable melodies and rock style that integrated elements of blues and country. From the third millennium standpoint, some of the production is a little dated and as you'd expect from a mainstream release, the more obvious spiritual songwriting of his Forefront albums isn't yet in place. But there is plenty here to get stuck into. There's the huge opener "True Love", the more romantic "The Rose And The Fire" and the edgy rocking "Slip Away". Ultimately Anderson is one of the great under-rated singer/songwriters of his generation and those wanting to hear a great talent should track down this and his other releases.
