Anything the Brits can do, the Yanks can do better, or so they think... but I'm not so sure that this time the Americans can claim supremacy. The three superb Vineyard UK releases that have been permanent UCB radio playlist fixtures recently are of such quality that it's going to take an exceptional album to beat them. This comes close, not least because there's little of the OTT praise style that sometimes pervades modern day p&w offerings; in fact the mood is generally intimate and in parts almost country, due no doubt to the presence of erstwhile country praise music songwriter, now worship leader from the Columbus Ohio VCF, Michael Hansen, who has composer credits on five of the 13 tracks and takes lead vocals on eight of them. The playing time is generous at a tad over 63 minutes and whilst some of the songs go on a bit (one of the problems when the Holy Spirit comes into a live recording session!), there's plenty here to inspire the listener. It's nearly all new stuff; only Isaac Watts' hymn "Joy To The World" and a couple of mid-'90s songs are more than a year old. The quality of the production is nicely up to scratch as well. But I still think that the Vineyard UK albums are better....
