Producer Mark Townsend has assembled a worship album which is both beautiful and striking. A mixture of ambient moods and vocal performances that take the listener into the presence of God. I have recently been using this devotionally as I've worshipped God in the morning. Gregorian chants and Michelle Ray's fragile vocals float across mellow synth created soundscapes and songs that are older than the hills get a fresh breath of the Spirit infused into them. Occasionally, you even get Rebecca St James reading devotional Scriptures from the King James version to help focus proceedings. I like this! It's unusual, how many ambient albums have cornet solos? Check out that old chestnut "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" and be surprised. "More Precious Than Silver" has that floaty vocal over some interesting rhythms. I just love the way that Townsend's arrangements surprise and inspire. If you want something that will relax you, prepare you for worship, lift you and give you a selection of songs you can sing along to, you've found it!
