You should never give the game away at the beginning of a review so I won't start by telling you that I think this album is really good (!). Somewhere between Jars Of Clay and Foo Fighters after a bath and a shave, this is solid, meaty, American alternative rock. Chunky, not funky. This is Reflescent Tide's debut album (from the sleeve notes and cover photo it appears they're not long out of college) yet already they're getting clever (try counting time to "Slipping Through My Hands"!). You'll find pleasing and quite original guitar work, a solid and innovative rhythm section, gutsy vocals and odd things happening in the middle of tracks that make you think. This album is hard driving enough to stick on your stereo loud and play air guitar to be also interesting enough to sit down and listen with your headphones on, skipping back to listen to the clever bits over and over. Lyrically Reflescent Tide are honest: a scan through the titles - "Wasted Me", "Distant", "Slipping Through My Hands", "Finding My Way" and a glance at the writing credits spanning 1993-95 give the impression they have had a hard three years! But nearly all songs show that Psalm-like willingness to learn from the mistakes and confess the truth that is known, even if it is not felt. My conclusion then on Reflescent Tide? In case you hadn't guessed - really good!

Thanks for the kind words about the band fred. You asked, nearly 8 months ago, what I am doing now? well, I am a solo artist now and have been since 1999. Play with an artist named eli occassionally and toured with Mitch McVicker for a couple years as well. Check out my website for more info: www.jeffweissmusic.com
