This three-track release from Manchester rapper Damian Coley, aka Righteous, is a tasty slice of street hip-hop. Lyrically, Righteous is a preacher, rapping such lines as, "I know that you are ready for, this life in Christ worth waiting for." In the last few years Righteous has been actively ministering in prisons, schools and churches while working towards his debut album. This is all commendable stuff, but I can't help feeling that the vocal content heavily relies on "Christian lingo", with each of the tracks sounding like different versions of an altar call. It would be exciting to hear Righteous drop some advice about God involved in "real-life" situations. Although the production is not innovative, it is nicely done, with stabs of flute melodies and backing vocals working to good effect. Righteous is a man with a mission and with this promising beginning, I'm sure that journey will go from strength to strength. I hope the album can inject his straight talking gospel style into some tough, everyday issues.
